SIFNOS

authentic island living

SIFNOS

THE ISLAND

Located in the center of the Cyclades, Sifnos is an elegant island offering villages rich with tradition and an evocative landscape. Its proud history stretches back thousands of years, shaping its architectural character with Venetian castles, Byzantine churches and Cycladic farmhouses. Ancient hiking trails criss-cross its steep hillsides, marked by xerolithies (dry stone walls), alongside olive groves and azure-topped chapels. Its strong cultural identity is synonymous with food as well as a ceramic tradition, with 20 pottery studios still active on the island today. The island is home to a discerning social community that appreciates quality at every level — one that we wish to join and nurture through the Faros Project.

THE LOCATION

Faros, the location of our new  project, is a picturesque settlement on the southern coast of Sifnos. Nestled within a sheltered bay with a small harbor and a safe anchorage, it has an idyllic island vibe that harks back to the classic Greek summer. There are three sandy beaches, classic tavernas, as well as hiking trails to nearby villages and easy boating access to neighboring islands — so residents have little need to use their car. Faros is also home to new restaurant and bakery concepts.

THE CONCEPT

The Faros Project is inspired by a ‘Back to Basics’ concept that we developed in response to the shifting context of the world and its needs: to be closer to nature, to nurture family and connections, and prioritize our wellbeing. An organic extension of the existing settlement, The Faros Project’s masterplan is characterized by a typology of small, standalone volumes that can work individually or be combined into a house or function as a complex — offering a high quality of flexible living for their residents. Continuing the thread of good quality local architecture and taking it into the future, our design concepts are defined by two strategies: stone terraces with white pavilions that incorporate the xerolithies; and Sifnos-style farmhouses. All our designs strive to minimize their impact on the local environment by integrating seamlessly into the landscape, utilizing the natural elements and using local materials.
