SUNFLOWER
SUNFLOWER
A coastal Cycladic estate with inspiring architecture and exclusive beach access
The position and layout of the house is optimized in order to establish privacy from the adjacent properties and to shield its main outdoor areas from the prevailing winds.
Just as a sunflower perpetually turns toward the sun on which it thrives, the centrifugal organization of the Sunflower Residence unfurls along a celestial pathway that follows the sun throughout the day: from morning to evening and from East to West. At the heart of the Sunflower, deeply inserted courtyards invite the landscape and natural lighting into the center of the house, creating a centripetal spatial organization around the main communal areas. These quiet, exterior spaces balance the drama of the surrounding views
The residence is conceived as a sculptural lattice of walls that connect the house to the landscape, but simultaneously provide shelter from it. This duality of “prospect and “refuge” extends across the site in all directions like a sunflower. The curving walls embrace the various qualities of the site, defining circulation paths and areas of stasis. Thus a variety of distinct places is created for the owners, their children, and their guests, for both small groups and larger gatherings, all taking in the view and protected from the wind.
